Bonsai and Renewal

This past June I had the honor of teaching bonsai to the students of the Planting for Success program. The program supports incarcerated individuals by providing job training, certified courses, and job placement services before their release. Mike Mumford, a Kifu Bonsai apprentice and a PFS employee, brought the opportunity to my attention. Mike and I collaborated to help participants wire and style bonsai, focusing on themes such as patience, determination, and renewal. The bonsai that the participants created now reside at the PFS orchard. They serve as a symbol of perseverance and a welcoming environment. It was a privilege to contribute to this mission and to see how the art of bonsai can mirror the journey of personal transformation.
